Manager Roberts PRAISES Cuban Miguel Vargas

By Jesús Pérez Vichot (Chuchi)

Dave Roberts, 2020 World Series Champion as a manager, praised Cuban prospect Miguel Vargas. The statement made by the skipper of one of the most favored teams to make it to the Fall Classic are very encouraging to the Number 6 prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

Roberts spoke about the talent displayed by the Havana-born infielder, stating that he is a special player who has shown talent both hitting and fielding. He is hopeful that Miguel Antonio might help the Dodgers this season, so the MLB debut of former Cuban baseball star Lázaro Vargas’s son is just a matter of time.

This Spring Training, Miguel Vargas has gone two for five, showing a great plate discipline that has helped him draw three walks. Roberts is aware of how much he can contribute to the ballclub, because despite his youth he can play third base, second base and first base with dexterity and looseness.

In 2021, Vargas hit 23 homers and drove in 76 runs, hitting .319 in 120 minor league games (83 in AA and 37 in A+). at 22, and with a very good physique (6’3”, 205 lbs), I am sure Vargas will make his MLB debut in a very short time. As a matter of fact, he has all the necessary tools to succeed and become yet another Cuban star in the majors. Time will prove Roberts right.
