THINGS GO CRAZY in New York: “Kenrys Morales Mentioned in the House”

The agreement between the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and the MLB last March 10 marked the start of one of the moments that baseball fans around the world enjoy the most.

Within only a week, free agents signing unleashed and, of course, the winningest franchise with 27 World Series has not stop generation expectations and news among its followers.

The mighty New York Yankees had kept calm for four straight days until they finally decided to make some roster adjustments. Following the blockbuster deal with the Minnesota, Aaron Boone’s disciples intend to improve their lineup both offensively and defensively before the 2022 season, trying to get a World Series after over a decade of title drought.

The Yankees traded catcher Gary Sánchez and third baseman Gio Urshella to get third sacker Josh Donaldson and utility shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa, apart from youth catcher Ben Rortvedt, in a trade where no cash was involved.

After much speculation on the media regarding coveted first baseman Freddie Freeman, the Bronx Bombers decided to pursue a two-year, $30-million deal, with Anthony Rizzo. The lefty slugger played the Wild Card game with the New Yorkers, where he hit a homerun in their ballpark.

Following the silence of the pinstripes in the market, social media exploded after the mentioning of the name of Kendrys Morales. After a peculiar message by Jake Storiale, one of the popular members of the YouTube channel Jomboy Media and the voice of the English podcast “Talkin’ Yanks” specialized on topics related to the franchise.

“Kendrys Morales just got mentioned in the house and I need Yankees news NOW,” said Jake in his Twitter account. That was enough for the eager fans to make the former Industriales player who played in the Majors and had his last season in 2019 a trending topic.

“The Sensational” went viral immediately, creating expectation and reactions  such as “Give me 2015 Kendrys Morales all day long” (that was the year he won a Silver Slugger as a DH and the World Series with the Kasas City Royals).

The curious part was that not only Yankee fans started mentioning him: he was mentioned by followers of the Angels, Twins, Royals, Mariners, Athletics and Blue Jays (all teams he had played for in the American League) to remember his MLB career. The main reason is simple: the new opportunities from National League teams with the Universal DH.

Kendrys decided to call it a career in 2020. He totaled 213 MLB homeruns, 740 RBI in 1,363 games during 13 seasons since his 2006 debut. Apart from that, we need to remember his short but spectacular National Series career, when all of Cuba learned about an 18-year-old who became Industriales’s cleanup man and left seven rookie records (HR, EXBH, RBI), which granted him the Rookie of the Year award and consideration as one of the best rookies.
